Are you ready to grow your family through adoption? If yes, then one of the first steps is a home study. A private adoption agency can guide you through the process and make it easier to manage.
Courageous Hearts Adoptions is a licensed boutique-style adoption agency in Arizona that helps families complete their home studies.
What is a Home Study?
A home study is an important part of adoption in Arizona. A licensed social worker reviews families who want to adopt. Home study helps the social worker get to know you, your family, and your home. The goal is to ensure that a child will be safe and well cared for.
How Do Private Adoption Agencies Help with a Home Study?
Most home studies include three main parts:
- Gathering documents
- Home visit
- Interview by a social worker.
Our team will help you with each step of the home study and answer your questions along the way.
Step 1: Gathering Information
The home study begins with gathering information. These include:
- Basic identification information: Marriage licenses, birth certificates, passports, and driving licenses.
- Financial documents: Pay stubs, bank statements, tax returns, or a letter from your employer.
- Background checks: You will need to get clearance from state and federal agencies. This includes criminal background checks, child abuse records, and fingerprinting.
- Health reports: A recent note from your doctor saying you are healthy enough to care for a child.
- References: You may be asked to provide references from people who know you well. These can be friends, coworkers, or family members.
Step 2: Home Visit
Next, our social worker will schedule a home visit. The social worker will check that your home is safe for a child. The social worker will look for:
- Covered electrical outlets
- Safe storage for medicines
- Fences around the pool
- Emergency plans for fires or other dangers
The social worker will explain any changes needed before approval.
Step 3: Interview
Finally, the social worker will interview you and your family members. They may ask about your family life, parenting plans, and reasons for adopting.

Positive Adoption Language Disclaimer –We understand that using words such as “give up” or “put up” to describe adoption can be hurtful and inappropriate. However, we must include these words in our blog posts to appear in expectant moms’ Google search results. While we promote positive adoption language, many expectant moms who come to us at first do not understand what that means. Therefore, our blog posts may use the language they understand, such as “how do I give up my baby for adoption” or “how do I put up my baby for adoption,” in order to explain how to create an adoption plan for their baby.
